Nor would I ever favor such a thing.
I mean, I don’t know that I see “normalization” of transgender as a way to “force” tolerance. I think there’s an effort across our educational system to educate young people in tolerance. That’s different from forcing tolerance on “too old to change their intolerant closed-mindedness” folks like Tommy or Frank.
It dovetails into gray areas. I strongly believe in live and let live on all LGBTQ issues. I have my doubts about educational initiatives which encourage the very young to question their genders. I suspect that plants ideas in the minds of confused teens or pre-teens (who are all confused, anxious, and searching for identity in various ways at that age). I think it can be hard to draw a line between teaching young people to be tolerant of differences, and encouraging them to be different themselves. It’s very easy to turn something “cool” to that cohort.
Just like I don’t think biological men should compete in women’s sports. I think some on the extreme left scream “transphobia!!” at the first sign of disagreements like that, and I disagree with that.
But - that’s not what we’re talking about in this thread. This is a self-described libertarian who never even seems to bother posting anymore unless he’s objecting to the very existence of transgenders.
